summer news

hello!  summer is in full swing here in penland, nc.  it is hot and humid, the fireflies are out, and there are lots of people coming and going.  since i last wrote to you, i have been focusing on my studio jewelry, trying new things to expand my ideas and to move forward.  it has been wonderful to have hours and hours to work on my jewelry.  as part of my experimentation, i took a class in another medium at penland - "embroidery: stitched maps."  it was a wonderful class and a total experience,  i loved learning about embroidery and being out of my element.  you can see images of the work i made here and read all about it here.   i also wanted to take a few moments to mention june's jewelry of the month, a collaboration with japanese ceramic artist, masaaki shinko.  the necklace is pictured to the right.  masaaki made the beautiful clay beads and i designed the complementary chain in oxidized sterling silver.  there are three left priced at $120. 

the summer is a busy one and i am really excited about the many opportunities i have to make new work.  my residency is giving me this time and i am so grateful!  here is a list of current and upcoming events for the coming months:
